Specimen MACN-PV 19.748 (Figs. 1-2, Extended Data 1, 2, 4-6) of Vegavis iaai was collected in January 1993 by the Instituto Antártico Argentino (IAA) research team Bioestratigrafía Ross, headed by Eduardo Olivero (Laboratorio de Geología Andina, CADIC-CONICET). The geological and paleontological field research in 1993 has been conducted by F. Mussel and D. Martinioni, with the skillful help of G. Robles. W. Zinsmeister participated in this field expedition as a guest paleontologist of the IAA.
